Liquor drinks In South Carolina breweries?!? You read that correctly…
Did you know Bill 974 was introduced in the South Carolina Senate on January 13, 2016 and it seeks to allow breweries licensed to sell beer and wine for on-premises consumption to also apply for a retail on-premises consumption permit for the sale of distilled spirits? Bill 974 is currently sitting in legislative limbo in the Judiciary Senate Committee, BUT if passed it will amend what is commonly referred to as the “STONE LAW” (Section 61-4-1515 of the South Carolina Code of Laws) to allow any brewery in South Carolina that is allowed to have guest taps and wine the ability sell liquor by the drink.
If passed this legislation has the ability to shift the culture of the growing South Carolina craft brewery scene or maybe just give more options to enjoy at the bar… Time will tell.
